Southeastern Massachusetts Educational Collaborative: Transitional Services: SMEC is a public education collaborative established serving Acushnet, Fairhaven, Marion, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Rochester and Old Rochester Regional public schools in Massachusetts. The Collaborative's programs and services are locally based and locally directed and are designed to supplement the special education resources of its member districts. SMEC offers a variety of services for students with special needs aged 3-21 as well as adults with developmental disabilities. The Collaborative also offers professional development opportunities for educational staff. SMEC is a member of the Massachusetts Organization of Education Collaboratives.

Professional Development opportunities and activities are offered throughout the year. Most training is held in our conference room at 12 Welby Road in New Bedford, but can also be brought to individual school districts upon request. We are able to secure presenters for school-wide or district-wide programs in subjects such as speech and language development, autism, restraint training, AAC, Asperger's, cultural diversity, SPED law, first aid/CPR, and more.
