This course prepares teachers and administrators to use a mentoring curriculum that ensures mentoring conversations are focused and purposeful. The curriculum includes: Mentoring in Action: Guiding, Sharing, and Reflecting With Novice Teachers and The First Years Matter: Becoming an Effective Teacher. These two books are REQUIRED. The goals of this course are to: prepare qualified mentors to support novice teachers. support mentors and novices in having purposeful mentoring conversations aligned to standards. provide relevant professional learning that can be applied in the classroom inspire novice teachers to lead their own development through mentoring conversations retain novice teachers in our schools. Key questions reviewed in the course: What does a qualified mentor need to know and be able to do? What are the topics for a year-long curriculum? How does a mentor observe and provide feedback? What do effective mentoring conversations look like in practice? What is crucial to novice teacher growth and development? Two required books.
