Building Relationships With ELL Students

15 PDPS can be used to document required ELL/SEI for DESE professional license recertification.

One important way to support students from other cultures is to build a relationship with them. This course offers teachers and school administrators an opportunity to learn; 1) who the ELL students are in the classroom or school, 2) how to use social and emotional skills to build a relationship with ELL students, and 3) how mindfulness practices can be used to minimize stress for ELL students. The course final will include a practical application of the ideas learned in the course.

The course content offers administrators ways to provide teachers and support staff with ELL strategies they can use in the classroom. It is useful for observation and feedback conversations and ideas can be included in professional development training.

The course is self-paced and delivered in a .pdf document which includes videos, readings, and reflections. It is designed to be completed in 3-4 weeks or earlier. An experienced online mentor communicates with each course participant by phone to confirm the timeline for course completion and to answer any questions related to the course final. Each participant receives a detailed response to each lesson reflection at the end of the course. No book is required.
